How to Treat and Prevent Cloudy Water in Your Pool

Cloudy pools may occur due to a number of reasons. Cloudy water largely occurs because of poor water balance, lack of circulation, poor filtration or the depletion of chlorine/bromine. It can also occur due to dead algae, dirty or old filter sand, excessive debris in the pool or leaving solar blankets on for extended periods of time.

To treat cloudy water in pool:

  • 1) Bring in pool water sample for water balance assistance
  • 2) Continue to circulate pool 24 hours a day - timers are not recommended when having pool water problems
  • 3) Clean all debris from pump basket and skimmer basket
  • 4) Direct return jets downwards at 45 degree angle to the right

Choose one of the following options:

    Option A

  • Add the recommended dose of Pool Supplies Canada Super Clarifier to the water. Walk along the poolside staying mainly in the deep end. Do not use more than the required amount as this chemical may lose efficiency and cause cloudy water. Backwash when the filter pressure rises 8-10 psi or after 48 hours, whichever comes first. Do not use this product with Cartridge or D.E. filters.
  • Option B

  • Add 1oz of Natural Chemistry Clear per 15,000L of pool water. Add to entire pool surface concentrating on deep surface areas. This is the only product that may be used with Cartridge and D.E. filters.

Filtration, circulation, cleaning and chemical balance are extremely important in maintaining a clear and problem free pool. Be sure to test your water on a regular basis to prevent problems that might shorten your swimming season!

Please ask us about our Pool Supplies Canada Algae Free Guaranteed Maintenance Program for clear sparkling water.

Important: please note that all filters need to be cleaned regularly with Filter Cleaner.
