Chemical Start - Up For New Pools
For Chlorine (including Salt and Nature II) and Bromine Sanitation Systems
Day 1
|
- 1) Add Stain and Scale Control (100 mL per 10,000 L of pool water) solution by slowly pouring it around the perimeter of the pool water. Wait 1 hour to let it circulate.
- 2) Shock the pool with non-chlorine based Oxidizer (1 kg per 75,000 L pf pool water). Wait 3 hours.
- 3) Balance the pool water to the following levels:
- pH: 7.2 – 7.6
- Calcium hardness: 250 – 300 ppm
- Total alkalinity: 80 – 100
If applicable, install the Nature II cartridge.
- For Chlorine Pools Only:
As soon as water is circulating and your filter is clean, add Stabilizer. Use Granular Stabilizer and add 300 g per 10,000 L of pool water by putting the granular powder into double-layered pantyhose. Hang or suspend this pouch in the skimmer and leave it there until it is dissolved; OR use Liquid Conditioner and add 1 L per 10,000 L of pool water to raise your stabilizer levels to 30 ppm.
- Establish recommended sanitizing level by adding unstabilized granular or liquid chlorine. ** For Pools with Nature II Systems, this step burns off contaminants so the cartridge can be activated **
Add:
HTH Extra: broadcast 65g per 10,000 L. Test after 10 minutes, and if levels are below 1.0 ppm, repeat until 1.0 ppm is obtained,
OR Unstabilized Liquid Chlorine: add 1 L of liquid chlorine per 10,000 L of pool water. Test after 10 minutes, and if levels are below 1.0 ppm, repeat until 1.0 ppm is obtained.

Day 2
|
- Add 40% Algaecide (100 mL per 10 000 L of pool water) by slowly pouring it around the perimeter of the pool water. Wait 1 hour.
- Activate chemical feeder to medium setting. Wait 24 hours. Bring a sample of your water into Pool Supplies Canada for testing. After your test has been completed, adjust the chemical feeder setting up or down as needed.
|
For Nature II: Circulate the pool 24 hours for the first 4 days with a chlorine level over 1 ppm. After day 4 allow the chlorine level to drop to 0.6 ppm. At this point, your pool should circulate no more than 12 hours per day.
|
For Bromine: Once water is balanced you begin to start up the automatic brominating system. You must dissolve 25 grams of bromine per 10,000 L per day.
